Volunteer Opportunities

 

 

 

Every year the New Life Mission sees hundreds of people walk through its doors to serve through their time, abilities and heart to serve the less fortunate of our community. We are so grateful for these volunteers whom without we would find it difficult to function. There are many volunteer opportunities ranging from kitchen helpers, hair stylists, to working in our thrift store in a number of different departments. Listed below are a variety of volunteer opportunites now available.

 

 

 

Kitchen Volunteers

Monday - Sunday

Duties include:

  • Working under supervision of our cooks
  • Helping prepare lunch
  • Helping with kitchen clean up
  • Helping serve meals
  • A variety of prep work

 

Dining Room Volunteers

*We are looking for those who have had experience in recovery issues with a long track record of being clean and sober*

Monday - Sunday

Duties include:

  • Having coffee with our clientele, visiting, playing cards, etc.
  • Giving a listening ear
  • Monitoring dayroom activity to help lighten the load of the chaplain.

Clothing Room

* This job would be ideal for a small group who would like to volunteer 3 days a week for about 3hrs*

Females are preferred due to sorting women's clothing, sizing etc.

Monday - Sunday - 3 days a week

Duties include:

  • Sorting donated clothing into sections of sizes, seasons and men's or women's.
  • Filling clothing order requests as needed from dayroom clients
  • Ensuring organization of clothing room

New Look Hair Salon

  Wednesday & Friday  1:00 pm - 3:00 pm

*We are currently open the above hours but we would love to extend the days the New Look Hair Salon is open when we have more volunteers come on board. We are flexible on the hours.

Duties include:

  • Providing clients with haircuts. If you are able to commit to a specific time each week to extend our hair salon hrs that would be great!
  • Duties include: prepping the salon, cutting hair, interacting with clients, and cleaning up the salon

 

Delivery Truck Drivers

Wednesday - Friday (mornings)

*We are looking for even as little as a 1 hr commitment for one day a week to fill this position

All volunteers for this position must have a current driver's abstract.

Duties include:

  • Picking up donations of coffee and pastries from various locations throughout the city.

 

Thrift City Volunteers - Cashier

Monday - Saturday (2-4hr shifts)

Duties include:

  • Manage the till
  • Service the customers in line and answer the phone
  • Keep the cashier area tidy

 

Thrift City Volunteers - Store Attendant

Monday - Saturday (2-4hr shifts)

Duties include:

  • Dusting and basic store tidying
  • Distribute priced merchandise to the sales floor
  • Transferring priced clothing to sales floor

 

Thrift City Volunteers -Sorter

Monday - Saturday (2-4hr shifts)

Duties include:

  • Is responsible for the sorting of all clothing and footwear into separate categories after determining whether the individual items are sellable or recyclable.
